when we bought our dog Dirty, we was suppose to get papers on him. the man we got him from brought the wrong papers. well after we had the dog for 3 months and still no papers we called the man about them, well he said he wanted the dog back. we told him NO we had already got attached to him. well he got mad and said we would never get his papers. we ask people that knew this man and this dog and they told us the dog was registered. is there any way to get his papers?

I don't think so. For what it looks like the dog is still registered to him, so unless you have the physical papers you cannot transfer ownership. Because i believe you have to send the physical papers to the registry to change it. Don't take my word for it though, i am not 100% positive, I am sure someone who deals with this regularly can chime in to confirm or debunk what i said.

How old is Dirty? Did you buy him as a puppy?

If he won't give you the papers you are probably just SOL. You can try and petition whichever registry he is supposed to be registered with and see if they can do something, but you may need to know both parents registered names and possibly their registration numbers and the guys full name and address.

Dirty is 7 years old, we have had him for a year now. we know the mans name and that he lives in Knoxville, Tn. and he bought the dog in New Jersey as a pup. but thats about it. we still have his phone number.

thats a hell of a battle marie but he still has "ownership" to say so I wouldnt rock it to much or he could start crap saying you stole dirty and so on.Good luck

People get screwed over on paperwork all the time. This is why you do not buy a dog without papers in hand (unless you REALLY know the people you are buying from)

Your best bet is to try and get something worked out with his previous owner. Otherwise sounds like you might be outta luck.

we have witnesses that was there when we bought Dirty. these people would go to court and tell everything about how he done us on this deal, with the papers and all.

Do you have a bill of sale or proof you paid for the dog? (like a cancelled check)
You can go to court if you want but it will be lengthy and costly. I'd try to work something out with this guy to get the papers. And if he won't give them to you I'd petition the registry before you try and go to court over the dog.

My buddy petitioned the ADBA because the guy wouldn't give him the papers and they single registered the dog, it took a while but much less costly than court.

Not a bad idea at all...

Well it would be a he said she said issue. Witness or not, he could say your witness is lying and he has the paperwork to prove the dog is still his and in court physical proof usually wins.

So again your best bet is to work something out with this guy. Since you have no paper proof you paid for the dog.

It doesn't matter if you have 5 witnesses, he has the legal documents of ownership on the dog. It would be best to try to work it out with this guy.
