i think what we have already seen on the other forum but maybe a section on history of the breed..with pictures and such..i think dan would be good at that section. the future of the breed?
maybe a section specifically about foods like a sub forum of health and nutrition.
product reviews (foods, toys, collars/leashes, flea control meds etc)
BSL information/updates
pictures of course
videos?
DOTM?
training, working dogs, conditioning
tips and how tos

i can think of some more i just need a few more minutes ill get back

ooh bloodlines and registries, history of bloodlines?

a section for debating..maybe with a warning that it is for debates and that with the passion of people with the breed they tend to get hot (this way we can keep the heated stuff out of the regular forum)

this would be a good sub-forum of health and nutrition

on that note too i think we should have more sub-forums because some specific questions tend to get lost in general main forums.

ugh i keep thinking of things i think would work i need to stop. lol

All About the Pit?

Pet Care section, subforum housetraining, chewing, etc. I hate responding to those and think they should have their own place where sweeter people than I can gently help them out.

Management, containment, equipment

The Pit or Death by Fire where people can sign up for verbal duke outs

Sports, maybe with subforums, maybe not

This n' That, like a lounge

Education-- books, seminars, etc

History

I have a few.

Can we get rid of this activate quick reply thing. Or am i just retarded and have an option to disable it.

Negative rep needs to be disabled. I don't see a purpose for it, it only encourages bad blood between members. (personally i don't care for rep all together, but i know a lot of people like it)

We need to have an appeals sub forum, I hate being banned or given warnings without the ability to contest the ruling of the mod. This will ensure fairness and stop mods from abusing their powers, we don't need GPB style of moderation. Any banned or suspended members will only have access to this sub forum, where they can create a thread about why they were banned. They will be asked to make a case for why they shouldn't be banned, and the mod who banned them should make a case for why they were banned. Once everyone has presented the case, every mod except the mod in question will vote to keep the ban or lift it.

Other than admin and staff, all mods should be elected via vote. And only members who have fulfilled a certain set of requirements shall apply.

Also can we have some better smilies please.lol

we should have a serious discussion sub forum, for news, politics, ethics..etc. I just think that this would stop the off topic/just bulls**ting sub forum from being cluttered.

I know he isn't, but once this site gets bigger, you will inevitably have a lot of mods to keep order. So this will be a way to keep the mods in check. Mods cannot have compete immunity like in GPB, thats the real downfall in their moderation.

If ppl get banned it has to come by me firts as long as i have accese to a comp mods can not ban they can only sugest a ban to me! Or if i trust the mod i will allow ban rights. As of right now the only member that i know knows how to mod this forum is weezie. But i cant ask him to mod he allready has a full plate. I have to figure out the mod thing before this place shows up on a search engian thou. As of now we are all friends and mods and banning is not an issue.

The smilies will come soon i have the get the moter of this thing running smothly before i paint it and slap stickers on her.

i was thinking about this a while ago. How about a forum that is titled "members threads" and it will be your forum to post in you name the tittle of the thread after your name and the thread will be for you and your dog. Kinda like your own little twitter type of thing.

Well here is my 2c. I think there should be a breeding topic. I think it would be really beneficial to have new people that come on to the site be able to SEE a breeding section with a " Breeding Rules to Live By" (or something) sticky. I also think it would be a good idea to have a definition of what a BYB is and the problems it causes for the breed and specific information about what people should be looking for in a professional breeder. I would really like to avoid people just joining the forums to ask stupid questions about how to produce a puppy with blue eyes (yes most of you probably heard that one lol).

I would also like to see the reputation removed. There is nothing worse than people just kissing ass to get brownie points. People should post because they want to educate and help.

I agree with this, common we are all friends here. No need to create unnecessary competition for rep. I mean if someone made a great post, tell them publicly, no need to be shy about it and tell them via rep.

Does the rep system give more points than a thanked posts? For instance, does it take more thanked posts to recieve a green rep bar than it would by someone giving you an approved rep? Sorry I am just curious.

infinity
06-22-2009, 02:31 AM
Depends on your rep power. Once you just start out and your new dont have many posts or rep. then yes thanked posts give out more rep. but once you climb the ranks very soon giveing actual rep will over power a thanked post. They loosly tie into each other. thanked posts are a fast way to say thanks with out actually haveing to make a small post saying thanks. just click a button. but once your a proven member giveing out rep will over power giving thanks. so if you want to really effect ppls rep then give them rep lol. Allso thanked posts adds up in your statistics that are in your profile page. Thanks are allso more public than giving rep. others can see what you are thanking ppl for. The added rep in a thanks is just a little bonus.

And allso groan is the oposit of thanks and does take away a little rep from the ppl that are groaned agianst.

Leon

If we are keeping rep, can we at least get rid of rep power. I think its lame that some people's rep is more valuable than another. So if a person posts 5 awesome posts, and he gets 5 reps from 5 people, he will still have less rep than a person who posts 2 awesome posts, and he gets 2 rep but from people with higher rep power. It really makes no sense to me.

Just through experience, we've found that the rep system tends to promote cliques. As the forum grows, your older, more established members have enormous amounts of rep. This could be a perceived good thing or not, depending on how they made their way to the top.

Did they make their way to the top because they are your respected forum pot stirrer? Every forum has one or two:D...Those members who are respected, but very opinionated, and have their followers. Did their followers rep point them to the top?

In forum land, very few members actually make it to the top because of their knowledge. The rep system promotes popularity and cliques, and in the end, when you have a system in place that takes away rep points, you have members with hurt feelings.

The goal and atmosphere of any forum should be a positive experience. I feel the rep system does more harm than good. :pupkisses:

I think its because of the publicness of the thanks. while ppl usually give inside comments with the rep.

And i understand clicks. I realize im not going to make evry one happy. but ill do things the way i think they should be done. And i have the forum and its members in mind. Back to the clicks thing. Even when i go to drill i have clicks with soldiers. I have my friends i hang out with. And i have been in for 3 years and am an E-4 so i have to take orders from ppl there E-5 and above to, but when i go back to my friends we are all equel. Honestly i will get rid of the whole rep system before i make it to were a brand new member that hasnt even made a post in the intros the same rep power as some one who has positivly contributed to the forum for years. And the way its set up not rep power is not leaps and bounds above or below each other. No one here is going to raveng any ones rep with a couple clicks.

As and admin i have to admit the rep system is the least of my worries right now. Im still tweeking things. And its an optional system. But the rep system is on my tweek list. I will show it some attintion soon. But i will say personaly i like it. As it is now it hasnt been abused. And if you start looking into statistics users with the most activity, posts, and usefull information have the most rep.
