im not trying to sound dumb..but what makes someone considered to be a kennel owner/breeder?i mean what is the difference between a byb and a kennel operator?if someone has dogs that are papered, and they have health checked them basically everything you should do....what is the difference between the two?im not wanting to be one,im just curious is all....

A lot of people have registered dogs with quality traits, but you shouldn't breed unless you can say that your dogs will be contributing to the breed itself. You must be able to point out faults, even when it comes to dogs that are a spittin image of conformation standards. Just because it comes from a champion bloodline, doesn't always mean it's worth breeding. IMO you should only deal with certain contacts and not breed for the public, as well as have knowledge about the bloodlines you are breeding prior to the process itself. Never breed for money, color, size, but rather for something that shows the apbt in a positive light. It's important because anyone can do enough research to find a registered dog, but it doesn't always mean it's stud or dam material.
But yes, as far as health testing and everything, I think records should always be presented to ensure a healthy, happy puppy.

I never implied that you plan on breeding him, but I was just giving my opinion of what I believe makes a reputable breeder. I could own 12 working dogs and win titles,(and still wouldnt breed).. and if i did... i'd still always look for better and better, if i was to consider it, of course.

i dont think they mean it litteraly when they say back yard breeder...every kennel is in the backyard, just that some have a good reputation than others and some want the money and the others want to better the breed and get money....lol

you could have done without spelling the four letter word lol but yea short and sweet. thats first and most obvious indicator of one. if it smells like money its not reputable.
most reputable breeders consider dogs their life but dont see breeding as a source of income. they cover their costs and provide responsible owners, workers and kennels with quality bred, healthy dogs.

thanks.. i have first hand experience with a byb. chino's "breeder" is a byb. He's my friend and Ive told him what I thought about him breeding his dogs, and now he doesnt ever plan on it again, but hey what can you do. My pup is here and im lovin it
Even tho he was a byb, he did it because he has a profound love for the breed. His decisions (when he got champ and zia) were uneducated, like when i got my pup. But we all have to learn somehow.
