Thought I would make a thread of Enzo's progression on the springpole since he seemed to not have any interest in it at first and I also figured this might help some people out as well that had the same issue.

So here is Enzo's springpole...

Unfortunately we dont have any trees in our yard so I had to come up with something to make him a springpole.

At first Enzo had no interest in it what so ever. I had the rope hanging about 2 and a half feet from the ground. Not too high but high enough for him to stand on his hind legs and grap it. We'll he really didnt want anything to do with it and I thought I just wasted all that time and money for nothing, but then some people suggested to lower it some and see what will hapen.

A couple days ago I ended up lowering the rope to where the bottom of the bite rope is barely touching the ground. Once Enzo saw that the rope was at ground level he started to show some interest. He wasnt tugging yet but was more like boxing it and hitting it with his snout and started to bite it some.

Today he started to show alot more interest. I grabbed the rope and started to shake it around and he ended up going after it and started to bite the rope. While he was biting the rope I started to act like I was playing tug o war with him and he started to tug on the springpole on his own and he did that for a couple minutes then let go. So I ended up reapeating what I did and it worked.

After about a week of him getting use to the springpole at this level I will slowly increase the height by a couple inches and leave it there for about another week and keep raising it everytime until it is at a comfortable height for him, but to where his hind legs are still touching the ground so it will be able to work him out as well.

I will update this thread with any progession of him on the springpole and post some pictures up too. Maybe some video footage also.

Here's a reccomendation. I do it with mav . I throw the rope over the branch and let it dangle in front of his face so he gets enticed. After he grabs hold, I house the rope up so his front feet are off the ground. Maybe try that. Also it's called a SPRING pole for a reason, it gives it more action and the dogs like that. Or is that a spring up top?! It's a bit small looks like it'll snap if Enzo puts his weight on it. Garage door springs have ratings on them of how many pounds they can handle. You'll need a 50-70 lb one probly.

That is a spring at the top. I believe the spring that I got has a rating of 100lbs+. I have tugged on it a bunch of times with my weight and its just fine. Its also the same spring Nate(GreenMachine) uses with his dogs.

Glad he is showing interest. It didn't happen over night for me ether but now he loves the damn thing lol.

The tug o war thing worked for me. So did encouraging him when he really gets nasty with it. Once he starts growling and shaking the hell out of it. I turn into his own personal cheer leader. Now when he spring poles he thinks he is showing off lol.

Hahaha thats funny. I tug on the rope to get him more into it and its like he gets in the zone with it.

I zoomed in with my phone on the spring, I think the way the light hit it made it look really small. That looks like a garage door spring when I zoom in. My bad. Try the hoisting idea too it worked for me.

No worries lol

I'll try that but he seems to be doing fine how it is now.

That is excatly what I do with Peanut. Though now everytime he is on it he looks to make sure I am watching him on it. If I walk away he follows me and when I get back he goes right back to his shaking. He loves an audience and the cheering. I tell him "do work" or "get some" and he knows excatly what I mean :)
