Any one know If using ppl shampoo on a dog is fine in most cases. Our dog is normal has no skin/fur problems or allergies AFAIK would using ppl shampoo be ok for the dog? The cheap dog shampoo is like 3$ and decent ppl shampoo is 2$ and you get more. Whats the difference? Some of the dog shampoos are shady to and don't list the ingredients.

I have heard of some dog groomers using like V05 (ppl shampoo) and stuff.

Eh I have before when I've run out of dog shampoo in a bind. but the PH levels are different in people skin and people shampoo CAN cause irritation and itchy skin.

I prefer to use dog shampoo for the dogs its formulated for their skin PH and hair type.

Plus I wouldn't use a $2 bottle of shampoo on my own head! lol

Tho only people shampoo that i have ever used on dogs is the baby shampoos for the reasons that chrisy pointed out. Fur is different then hair also, belive it needs more oil.

I have used my shampoo on my dogs before cause I have a dry scalp and dry hair so I use that oily shit lol the no frizz and all that. It keeps my hair from drying out. I use it on mine when I want a really slick coat. I don't use the cheap shampoo though my bottles cost anywhere for 5 to 10 dollars

Our vet told us years ago to just use antibacterial liquid soap on our dogs for getting them clean. I have used it for about 10 years now and no probs.

Just don't use some crazy ultra scented stuff, I buy the generic antibacterial soap from Dollar General and have never had any problems.

Way cheaper than dog shampoo.;)

Sorry Infinity!:o Just think! Next time you can save money

Christy-never had a problem with drying them out and they seem to be so much cleaner than with shampoo.

Here is another hint-don't know why but blue Dawn (the original, no frills) kills fleas, excellent for itty bitty puppies who cannot be bathed with all those chemicals or for people like me that try to keep the chemicals to a minimum anyway.:D

+1 on that one. That's what we used on Brian when he was 3 weeks old and was infested with fleas from the place He was before me. We used a little dish soap and went and got a lice comb that comes with lice shampoo. Bathed him real fast with the dish soap then quickly combed the still fleas out of his coat with the lice brush. 45 minutes of doing that and the puppy didn't have a single flea on him any more and we used no chemicals.

Just make sure that you knock the fleas off of the comb into a cup of soapy water. It was easy to brush a 3 week old pup with the comb to there wasnt much dog there to cover The little guy piratically fit in my hand.

To my knowledge, the soap doesn't kill the flea's It just puts them into a sleep mode. So the longer the soap is on the flea the longer it stays asleep. But it is usually is long enough to brush your little guy and get them off.

The reason I say this is, I worked in a grooming shop way back when, and someone brought in there white dog. As I was spraying the dog with water to get it ready for a bath, this white dog turned black all over, I started yelling at the woman that ran the shop. She came running in yelling get soap on the dog , get soap on the dog. So later I asked her why we where dumping soap all over the dog and she told me that it puts them to sleep. I was sooo grossed out, I had never seen anything like that before.

that is too funny! we use the very expensive (at least we wanted to try it) we bought Peanut the Pet Head shampoo...it really works pretty nice. It makes Peanut's fur super soft shiny and during the wash the soap suds up nice and rinses out instantly and the smell (the smell is great) lasts for around 4 days depending on what we do.

When the pups were little they would get distracted and step in a poop pile now and then. I quickly learned that people shampoos, dish soap, and liquid antibacterial soap left the stink in after the feet were washed, but Ivory bar soap worked like a charm. Since puppies are always getting into something I started using Ivory bar soap on all our short-haired dogs for the bath's and foot-washing. It's been working great and seems to be milder than any of the shampoos out there.
