I think so. My dogs are opposite. They are very aggressive toward other pitbull type dogs, but don't seem to mind other breeds.

Hmmmm what about towards people also? I have a dog who doesn't feel so easy around darker individuals....

Maverick absolutely hates!!! Dogs if the sheep/herder style dogs.... Extremely DA towards them. I think it stems from a bad experience before I got him but I think it's possible for dogs to be selectively DA because of fears. I think this stems back to the levels of fear and DA and bad experiences. As far as the black people thing Im not sure since my dog does have socialization experience with them but he is still uneasy.

Michelle, what dogs specifically does your peanut have issues with both grizz n maverick are uneasy around the extremely hairy formless type. Bug dogs they show aggression small dogs utter confusion. I think they don't connect those figures with being dogs honestly.

Quite often when it comes to darker people, its the difference in smell and the fact that they can often look as if they are a shadow coming at the dog. Being as the see more of shades darker colors can be harder for them to make out.

small dogs utter confusion. I think they don't connect those figures with being dogs honestly.

My dog also look at small dogs alot like "what the hell is that?" lol... Even tho we have a Chihuahua

Grizzs breeder is black. He visits often. There is no problem there. He WAS kicked as a puppy by a black man dressed in black in my home invasion that's why I wonder if it's fear. He went SUPER aggressive once at a large man in black hat, black trench coat, bug fury black dog.... It WAS a creepy look LOL. That's very valuable incite holly. Any suggestions?

Peanut so far has showed no difference in people. He has never been afraid of people by color.

Okay he has had issues with boxers, huskies, chihuahuas, a corgi and a GSD. I dont know about any other breed those are just the ones so far he has had an incident with.

He has grown up with 2 pit bulls and has never had incident with them. When we have come across adult pit bulls he is fine with them no hair up nothing. today on our walk we came across an american bully puppy (chaingang RE) he was acting excited but wagging and looking at it trying to pull me over to see it (of course i kept him away). There were no signs of his normal aggression at all it was what he does when it is time to see Jade every night.
this gives me hope that one day we will be able to get another pit bull puppy..

Its funny that this was brought up cause Brian so far seems to not like anything that has two wheels such as bike, motorcycle etc. Also he doesnt like black people as well. Now we take him to stores and stuff with when we can and the only thing we have seen from him with other dogs is he will bark at them until we tell him to be quite then he goes on his merry way and works on stilling the stupid dog cookies they have in there.lol. Silly dog.

The only person Loki has ever shown a dislike of was a tall, light skinned guy. It was late at night and Mike was in bed and my sister in law and her boyfriend came over. I am not sure what it was but Loki get growling at him and keeping a good distance. He even peed on the carpet a little bit when the guy tried to pet him. I think it might have been just protectiveness because he was an unknown male in the house while my husband wasn't there because he hasn't had a problem with the guy after that day, but there was something about that night. The guy also has a male lab which Loki may have smelled on him *shrugs*.

Loki broke a pinch collar (cheap store bought one, learn my lesson there) pulling towards a couple of little hairy yappers in their yard. I think this was because the dogs has some serious little dog syndrome. Had they been calmly sitting in their yard he probably wouldn't have gone for them.

I think dogs can be discriminant like that in what they like or don't like. Those noses can probably smell the difference between different breeds of dogs and races of people. I think that compells them as much as the visual.

My dog, that recently passed, was like that. She was a lab/husky mix. She didn't like my "pit bulls". lol, but she loved all other dogs. I guess she didn't like how Tess was always trying to lick her face.

I just went to my first obedience class. And the guy who i am working with told me that dogs have pictures to associate things with. He says the aim of socializing is to fill the dogs head with as many pictures as possible, so when the dog sees something, he does not see a individual picture, but a collage of pictures, and the dog is forced to generalize.

Which is good, because you want the dog to see people...not a white person, short person, or tall person, but just a person. If you just socialize your dogs with a certain breed, and he has a bad experience, every time he sees that breed, he brings up that picture of that breed in his head and his bad experience. But if you fill his head with pictures of a 100 breeds, he will just look at the other dog as a dog.

So yes, it is possible for dogs to discriminate, if they are not properly socialized. So my trainer keeps telling me, socialize with EVERYTHING..meet as many different people and dogs as possible, fill the dogs head with pictures with people and dogs.
