The Email I received

Hey Andy,

I have been looking at different kennels to in the future to obtain a female from. I have a year and a half male that I would like 2 breed.
However, I read your contract and it sounds like you have placed very unreasonable demands on folks that would be interested in a pup from you.

I have breed many pit bulls and other breeds, and I would never place a demand on a person buying a pup. Oh don't get me wrong, I am very selective who I would sell to, but I would never tell someone what they had to do with their pup, getting it spayed or neutered, I think that is totally wrong.

But, if that is how you want to operate, that is your call. Please understand I don't want you to think that I am trying to tell you how to run your kennel, cause I am not doing that.

I just am giving you my opinion. You have some nice dogs.

My Reply

Well this is America and you are entitled to your opinion. In my circle, every responsible breeder has a contract with requirements from the buyers. We have sold dogs from TN, to VA, to California and since we are not peddlers we have a contract. I believe our contract to be reasonable and wouldn't think of just breeding and selling pups, knowing nothing about where they are going. APBT should not be bred just to be bred, which is why if you are not showing a pup from us or working it then it should be spayed or neutered. Thanks for the compliments on the dogs but we disagree on the contract issue.

For any responsible breeder, I think puppy contacts is a must and they should be pretty detailed. When i browse a kennel, and see the puppy contracts, it tells me a lot about the breeders. The more detailed and more demanding they are, tells me the breeder cares a lot about their puppies, and want to find the best home for them.

Also we have to consider we are talking about pit bulls, ownership responsibility matters a lot more than many other breeds. When you have irresponsible owners ruining the breeds good name. Any sensible breeder would do their absolute best to keep their dogs off the hands of irresponsible owners, who are entirely responsible for destroying the breed you love and spend many years devoted to.
